Protected River Banks in the Gorenja vas - Poljane Municipality

Zavarovalnica Triglav has used funds, usually reserved for gifts to business partners, for preventive projects all around Slovenia

The Zavarovalnica Triglav Kranj Regional Unit has allocated funds to the Gorenja vas - Poljane Municipality, which were used to construct two stone levies, which will protect the riverbanks of the Brebovščica and Hotoveljščica watercourses. This has improved the flooding and road safety in the area. The New Year's preventive campaign is part of Zavarovalnica Triglav's socially responsible project "For a Better Tomorrow". The largest Slovenian insurance company has funnelled part of its annual financial resources, which it uses to purchase gifts for its business partners, into supporting 22 different projects in local communities across Slovenia.

The Hotovlje valley in the Gorenja vas - Poljane municipality was hardest hit during the October floods. At the narrowest point, where the town begins, the raging waters spurred by heavy rain carried off most of the front yard of a house and destroyed the water barrier used to control the watercourse.  Consequently, the main road leading to Hotovlje and other villages in the hinterland was closed for traffic for a few days. The financial resources, which Zavarovalnica Triglav donated to the Municipality as part of its New Year's preventive "For a Better Tomorrow" campaign, were used to construct two stone levies, one of which is already fully operable, while the other is in the final building phase. The levies are a kind of support wall, which protect the riverbanks of the Brebovščica and Hotoveljščica watercourses. This has significantly improved flooding and road safety in the area.

The local inhabitants will be safer

Milan Čadež, the Mayor of the Gorenja vas - Poljane Municipality, thanked Zavarovalnica Triglav for its help during the symbolic donation of the funds and explained: "In order to be able to simultaneously secure the residential building, the public water supply system, the sewage system and the river bank of the local road, we had to newly protect both riverbanks. The stone levies will prevent new damage during further downpours and protect the public infrastructure. They will also ensure the greater safety of the local inhabitants living in nearby residential buildings."

Janka Planinc, the Director of the Zavarovalnica Triglav Kranj Regional Unit, added the following during the ceremony:

It is our wish to help bring about positive change in local communities where we do business. We are certain that this year's New Year campaign was the right decision. It is our great pleasure to be able to provide this contribution and help with the long-term systematic repair of the watercourse in the area, which will ensure that local inhabitants now feel safer from flooding."

Support for 22 projects across Slovenia

At the end of the year, Zavarovalnica Triglav strengthened its traditional good cooperation with the local environment. Part of the annual funds, allocated for New Year's business gifts, will this time be provided to various prevented causes headed by local organisations all across Slovenia. This will help support as many as 22 different projects ranging from fire fighting, health services, civil protection, flooding and road safety, as well as those projects which concern the healthy development of children. The New Year's preventive campaign, with which the largest insurance company in Slovenia would like to raise awareness and decrease the likelihood of potential accidents, is yet more proof of Zavarovalnica Triglav's responsible actions aimed at society and nature.
