More than 1,700 entries to the Planica 7 trophy-design competition

Twelve-year-old Tjaša from Limbuš emerges victorious with her “Winner 7” design

The “Design a Trophy” competition, a collaboration between Zavarovalnica Triglav and the Planica Organising Committee aimed at finding a design idea for the Planica 7 trophy, attracted entries from more than 1,700 young ski jumping fans. A real trophy will be made from the “Winner 7” drawing submitted by 12-year-old Tjaša Vreš from Limbuš. While the jury were deciding on the winning design, the public were busy voting on the ten best designs overall. The authors of those winning designs will be invited to Planica in the company of their schoolmates.

Winning design reflects the courage of these winter heroes
“I’m extremely happy that my drawing won the competition. This means that other people saw some-thing special in my creation,” said Year 7 pupil Tjaša Vreš from Limbuš primary school upon being told the news. The versatile young artist, who likes to seek inspiration for her drawings, pictures and even pottery from the nearby woods and from books, took the opportunity to produce a de-sign that reflected the courage of these “winter heroes” who jump from the famous ski-flying hill at Planica every year.

As she says, creative activities enable her to express a variety of views of the world, which is why she encourages her peers to be creative too: “Creativity is good for everyone. No matter whether I’m happy, sad or angry, I transfer what I’m feeling by moving my hand across the paper to produce something beautiful. I encourage other people to do the same.” Tjaša is already looking forward to making the trip to the valley to watch the ski flying with her parents and brother. On the last day of the ski flying competition, she will present the trophy, made to her design, to the winner of the Planica 7.

Choosing a winner was a major challenge
“The selection process was very demanding, as we had over 1,700 entries. Every one of them had something, was a bit different, had its strengths,” explained competition jury member Cene Prevc. Although there could only be one winner in the end, the former ski jumper was keen to point out that many of the entries really stood out: “That’s why I encourage every young creator to keep going and take part in next year’s competition as well.”

A sustainable trophy will be made from the winning design
The jury based its decision not only on the originality of the design but also whether it could be shaped and made into a real trophy. This will already happen in a few days’ time using 3D printing technology. “This method enables us to make a sustainable trophy, as the production process produc-es little or no waste material. A special feature of this year’s trophy is that one of the materials that will be used to create it is artificial grass from the Mengeš ski jumping club. This grass was destroyed during the terrible floods last year,” explained Barbara Wilkesmann Hočevar, member of the “De-sign a Trophy” jury.

Ten best drawings as voted for by the public
The public also had a chance to take part by voting for the ten best drawings submitted to the com-petition. The top ten in order of number of votes received were: Planica 2024 (two drawings with the same name – one in first, the other in seventh place), 3D Zlata Planica, Zlati polet, Zlati skok Planice, Zlata Planica (two drawings with the same name – one in fifth and the other in sixth pla-ce), Veliki Peter Prevc, Planiški orel and Junak Planice. The artists will take their schoolmates to the World Cup season finale, joining around 4,000 other “Children of Triglav” at Planica on the first day of spring.
