Fire prevention education in Metlika

Raising fire safety awareness with a fire prevention vehicle at the Vinska Vigred Wine Festival in Bela Krajina

Do you know the most common causes of household fires and how to react if one breaks out? Practical training on how to respond to various types of incipient fires, using more than 20 simulators, is provided by a preventive firefighting vehicle, which the Firefighting Association of Slovenia uses to raise public awareness throughout the country with the support of Zavarovalnica Triglav. Today, the vehicle was presented at the traditional Vinska Vigred Wine Festival in Bela Krajina.

Visitors to the preventive firefighting vehicle, funded by the Fire Fund of the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief, can test different fire extinguishing simulators under the guidance of trained instructors. In this way, the Firefighting Association of Slovenia, in partnership with the country’s leading insurance provider, promotes awareness of preventive behaviour at various public events. Today’s event also featured demonstrations of several possible accident scenarios.

20 simulators for various fire scenarios

The Firefighting Association of Slovenia takes great pride in its new prevention vehicle, which is intended to educate people about everyday safety. A one-of-a-kind innovation in this part of Europe, developed through local ingenuity and engineering expertise, and equipped with more than 20 simulators, the vehicle recreates various fire scenarios in a home setting. Janko Cerkvenik, President of the Firefighting Association of Slovenia, notes that the vehicle has already proven highly effective at events across the country: “Our instructors demonstrate the use of a variety of hand-held extinguishers to people of all ages, showcasing kitchen fires, the behaviour of fireplaces, chimneys and hydrant boxes… We’re extremely pleased that the programme is so well received by visitors, and that many take the opportunity to try the simulators themselves.”

To date, more than 3,500 participants at events across Slovenia have engaged with the simulators and educational content provided by the Firefighting Association of Slovenia’s prevention vehicle. The aim is to bring fire prevention knowledge to every corner of the country, enhancing the safety of everyone.

“While we cannot always control what happens to us, we can do everything possible to be prepared for the unexpected. Understanding risks and knowing how to respond in the event of an accident are key factors in keeping your home safe. At Zavarovalnica Triglav, and along with our partners, we raise public awareness in a variety of ways. That’s why we’ve supported firefighters and their initiatives for many years, including this awareness-raising campaign using a preventive firefighting vehicle, which presents a unique opportunity to learn what to do in the event of a fire at home,” said David Toporš, Director of the South Region Insurance Sales Division at Zavarovalnica Triglav.

In addition to promoting the importance of making informed insurance choices, Zavarovalnica Triglav places strong emphasis on understanding risks and taking preventive measures. It supports prevention programmes, safety measures, expert discussions and public events, and reaches a range of target groups through initiatives such as the For a Better Tomorrow project.
