Fire prevention training in the Karst

Fire safety training on the fire simulation vehicle at the Festival of Teran and Prosciutto

Fire safety training is particularly valued in the Karst, one of the regions of Slovenia most at threat from wildfires. Practical training on how to respond to various types of fire outbreaks, using more than 20 simulators, is provided by a unique fire simulation vehicle that the Firefighting Association of Slovenia, supported by Zavarovalnica Triglav, uses to raise public awareness throughout the country. And on Sunday afternoon it will be the turn of visitors to the traditional Festival of Teran and Prosciutto in Dutovlje to get their chance to try out the vehicle’s fire simulators.

Financed by the Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief’s fire fund, the fire simulation vehicle lets visitors interactively experience various fire outbreak scenarios, and learn the right action to take. Visitors to the traditional Karst festival will be able to try out the simulators on Sunday, under the watchful eye of the instructors.

20 simulators for various fire scenarios

The Firefighting Association of Slovenia is very proud of its fire simulation vehicle, which it uses to educate people about safer living. It is the only one of its kind in this part of Europe, the product of domestic engineering know-how, and uses more than 20 simulators to examine various scenarios of potential fires in the domestic environment. Zvonko Glažar, Commander of the Firefighting Association of Slovenia, said about the purpose and importance of the vehicle: “The mission of this vehicle – a true school on wheels, operated by trained volunteer firefighters – is to bring fire prevention knowledge back to local communities, teaching people how to act to prevent fires, and how to respond when an accident happens. The training programme and demonstrations are designed for people of all ages. The Firefighting Association of Slovenia and our firefighters are committed to teaching everyone how to live safely. Reiterating the importance of fire safety and educating the public about it, particularly in these hot summer days, when the threat to the natural environment from fires is huge, is even more important.”

To date more than 52,000 people at events across Slovenia and employees at various firms have engaged with the simulators and educational content provided by the Firefighting Association of Slovenia’s vehicle. The aim is to bring fire prevention knowledge to every corner of the country, enhancing the safety of all.

“The nature of the landscape and the increasingly frequent periods of drought mean the Karst is one of the regions under a particularly pronounced threat of fire. Being aware of the risks and knowing the right action to take when a fire breaks out are therefore even more important. For a number of years now Zavarovalnica Triglav and its partners have supported projects to help raise the safety of the public and their property. We’re delighted visitors to the Festival of Teran and Prosciutto will also get the chance to gain or refresh their knowledge of what to do at the key moment to reduce the consequences of a fire. And this is how we build a safer future together,” said Jože Celin, Zavarovalnica Triglav’s western regional director.

In addition to raising awareness about making informed insurance choices, Zavarovalnica Triglav attaches great importance to understanding risks and taking preventive measures. It supports prevention programmes, safety measures, expert discussions and public events.

Zavarovalnica Triglav’s advice for the public during severe weather, and in the face of the associated risks such as the increased threat of fire, is to take heed of the announcements and recommendations made by the authorities. The Triglav Vreme app can be a great help, allowing people to monitor the weather conditions and the official announcements for selected locations, and to prepare for the dangers in good time.
