Fire prevention education in Maribor

Fire safety awareness with a preventive firefighting vehicle at Art Camp in Maribor City Park

Do you know the most common causes of household fires and how to react if one breaks out? Practical training on how to respond to various types of incipient fires, using more than 20 simulators, is provided by a preventive firefighting vehicle, which the Firefighting Association of Slovenia uses to raise public awareness throughout the country with the support of Zavarovalnica Triglav. Today, visitors to Art Camp, which takes place in Maribor City Park as part of the Lent Festival, were also able to try out the simulators installed in the vehicle.

Visitors to the preventive firefighting vehicle, funded by the Fire Fund of the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief, can test different fire extinguishing simulators under the guidance of trained instructors. In this way, the Firefighting Association of Slovenia, in partnership with the country’s leading insurance provider, promotes awareness of preventive behaviour at various public events. Today, Art Camp visitors were also presented with several potential accident scenarios and how to respond to them.

20 simulators for various fire scenarios
The Firefighting Association of Slovenia takes great pride in its new prevention vehicle, which is intended to educate people about everyday safety. A one-of-a-kind innovation in this part of Europe, developed through local ingenuity and engineering expertise, and equipped with more than 20 simulators, the vehicle recreates various fire scenarios in a home setting. Janko Cerkvenik, President of the Firefighting Association of Slovenia, notes that the vehicle has already proven highly effective at events across the country: “Our instructors demonstrate the use of a variety of hand-held extinguishers to people of all ages, showcasing kitchen fires, the behaviour of fireplaces, chimneys and hydrant boxes… We’re extremely pleased that the programme is so well received by visitors, and that many take the opportunity to try the simulators themselves.”

“We can’t prevent all accidents, but we can make sure we’re as prepared as possible. Awareness of potential risks and knowing what to do in an emergency are key to ensuring safety at home. That’s why Zavarovalnica Triglav and its partners are working together to raise public awareness in a variety of ways. For many years, we’ve also supported firefighters and various safety-related projects, including this preventive firefighting vehicle – a firefighting innovation that gives people a hands-on, interactive experience of how to respond to a fire in their own home environment,” emphasised Uroš Skuhala, Director of Sales to Legal Entities of the Eastern Region at Zavarovalnica Triglav.

In addition to promoting the importance of making informed insurance choices, Zavarovalnica Triglav places strong emphasis on understanding risks and taking preventive measures. It supports prevention programmes, safety measures, expert discussions and public events, and in this way reaches a wide range of target groups.
