Reporting storm damage

Storms and strong winds are causing damage in several parts of Slovenia, and Zavarovalnica Triglav appraisers are in the field

The storms and strong winds that first hit Slovenia on Thursday are continuing today, and several parts of the country have seen roofs damaged and trees uprooted. Zavarovalnica Triglav’s information is that the heaviest damage for now is being seen in the regions of Gorenjska, the Upper Soča Valley (the municipalities of Tolmin, Kobarid and Bovec), Goriška, Cerkno/Idrija, and Prekmurje. Our appraisers are already in the field collecting damage reports. Our advice to the public is to first ensure your own safety and the safety of those closest to you, and only then to concern yourself with property and with reporting the damage.

Once the situation has eased and it is safe to do so, you should try to prevent any further damage (e.g. by temporarily covering damaged roofs, removing dangerous objects, tree branches, etc.) and then report the damage to your insurer. Damage should be documented properly, with photographs, and the relevant documentation should be kept safe.

The fastest and easiest way for Zavarovalnica Triglav customers to file a claim is via the online form on this link or through the i.triglav digital office, which can also be accessed via the mobile app. A free hotline (080 555 555) is also in service. Although the deadline for reporting damage is usually three days after it occurs, claims filed later than this are allowed in cases involving storm damage

Zavarovalica Triglav strives to handle all cases as quickly as possible, as circumstances allow. Extreme weather events require an even stronger response and priority action on the ground. Customers who file their claims remotely will be called as soon as possible by Zavarovalnica Triglav representatives to arrange the next steps to resolve the claim.

Damage caused to housing and household fixtures is covered by your home insurance. Commercial premises and other buildings are covered by fire insurance. Damage caused by trees or roof debris falling on a vehicle is covered by comprehensive vehicle insurance, namely combination B under the partial plan (fire damage and natural disasters).

Visit this page for guidance on reporting damage caused by storms. On this link you can find a video from Uroš Metličar, director of property claims at Zavarovalnica Triglav, giving practical advice on how to respond to natural disasters and how to report any damage to real estate. More information about how to protect yourself and how to act in the event of strong winds can be found in this article on the Vse bo v redu website.

Stay informed and manage risks

While we cannot prevent extreme weather events, we can take steps to be better prepared and to respond effectively. The Triglav Vreme weather app can be very helpful, allowing users to activate push messages to warn them about various weather events so they can take timely action to protect themselves and their property.

The risk assessment tool in the i.triglav app can also be extremely useful in helping residents to judge which extreme weather events they are most exposed to in their region. This tool allows you to check your property’s level of exposure to earthquakes, floods, hail, lightning, and landslides.
