Take part in the mountain clean-up campaign and fill up a virtual waste container via a mobile application

Ljubljana, 10 August 2012 – The new feature of the third season of Zavarovalnica Triglav’s all-Slovene ecological campaign is a mobile application called Mountain Clean-Up. Via this application, mountain visitors will be able to record their contributions to a cleaner mountain world. The application is available for smart mobile devices running Android 2.2 or a higher version.

Over the last two years, a total of 50,000 garbage bags have been distributed among hikers and mountaineers participating in the mountain clean-up campaign, reviving that old mountaineers’ rule which says that, along with wonderful memories, we should also take the trash back to the valley. Their online community on Facebook is also continuously growing and is steadily approaching the number of 20,000 friends. With the introduction of the new Mountain Clean-Up app, the biggest Slovenian insurance company wants to go one step further with cleaning the mountains. “Via this application, we can take a picture of our garbage bags filled with trash collected from the mountains and hills. We can then estimate the weight of the bags and move the photo into the virtual waste container. This allows us to record the frequency and weight of garbage collected by hikers who use the application”, said Urša Manček, Assistant to the President of the Management Board. The application can be accessed via Facebook and Twitter by logging in with your password and e-mail. The application also allows us to publish our posts on Facebook and Twitter.

This year, special attention is dedicated to the safety of hikers and mountaineers, so Zavarovalnica Triglav is preparing a new mobile application to help hikers and mountaineers who find themselves in crisis situations in the mountains. “The Mountain Guide app, which will become operational in the second half of August 2012, will provide mountaineers and hikers with safety tips and will be of great assistance in solving crisis situations since it allows you to make emergency calls and send text messages”, says Urša Manček. It will warn you when dusk or bad weather is approaching and it will direct you to the nearest mountain cabin or shelter, depending on your location. The application even works with no data connection. So the Mountain Guide is truly a friend that every mountaineer in distress needs.
