Drivers will now be able to use the free DRAJV mobile application to improve their driving and to save on car insurance. The application was developed as a telematics-based technological solution, which has already been successfully used by several insurance companies abroad in monitoring, promoting and rewarding safe driving. The aim of Zavarovalnica Triglav is to encourage people to drive safer and improve their driving habits, thereby contributing to better traffic safety. DRAJV is the first such application in Slovenia.
Smartphones today have many functions, which were completely unimaginable years ago. They allow you, for example, to track your progress while running, to orient yourself in an unfamiliar city or to find the best restaurant nearby. Zavarovalnica Triglav used modern technology to develop a mobile application that promotes safer driving. With this in mind, the leading Slovene insurance company aims to contribute to improving the driving habits of drivers and thus help to ensure greater safety on Slovene roads, which has been one of its most important prevention goals for many years. Thus, Zavarovalnica Triglav was among the first to point out that young drivers need more experience in order to drive safely. To this end, in 2009 the Company launched the project entitled The Safe Driving Day with Zavarovalnica Triglav for young drivers in the AMZS Vransko Safe Driving Centre, which was later upgraded with the Triglav Young Workshop when the additional training of beginner drivers became mandatory.
Drive Safely and Save Money
The free DRAJV application will not only reward safe road behaviour with savings on car insurance but, according to Zavarovalnica Triglav, it will also significantly contribute to a long-term change in the driving habits of drivers. At the launch of the DRAJV application, Zoran Miloševič, Executive Director of Insurance Marketing and Distribution Division at Zavarovalnica Triglav, said: "We decided to develop a telemetrics-based application for smartphones because we believe that on the one hand it can contribute to a higher level of traffic safety in the long term, and on the other it brings direct benefits for the consumers, who are rewarded for their safe road behaviour with bonuses when taking out car insurance. The application was designed to take advantage of all the benefits of modern technology, while taking into account good practices from abroad, where telematics is already being used."
A Brand New Application in the Slovene Insurance Market
Globally speaking, telematics, based on which the application operates, is not new in the insurance market, however the DRAJV mobile application is first of its kind in Slovenia. Gregor Miklič, Project Manager of the Telematics Development Project at Zavarovalnica Triglav, said the following about the operation of the application: “By using the GPS signal and sensors in the smartphone, the application monitors compliance with speed limits, excessive acceleration, braking and turning and assesses the safety of driving based on the collected data. If after 300 kilometres the user gathers at least 90 points, they will receive a discount code for car insurance. The application was tested for almost a year on a sample of 50 users, who until now have driven around 800,000 km.”
Young Drivers Can Benefit the Most
The application is suitable for all drivers, especially for the beginners. As a rule, young people as a driver risk group pay higher car insurance premium. The DRAJV application encourages them to develop safe and responsible driving habits and to eliminate any errors or deficiencies in their driving already during their first independent steps behind the wheel. Thus, when by using the mobile application they prove to be a safe driver, they will receive financial benefits such as reduction in surcharges for young drivers or a discount on car insurance premium.
