A better tomorrow for the people of the Goričko region

Zavarovalnica Triglav donates funds for the purchase of defibrillators as part of its New Year campaign

Zavarovalnica Triglav supports prevention projects nationwide through its New Year 'For a Better Tomorrow' campaign. The insurer's regional office in Murska Sobota has donated a portion of the funds that would otherwise have been spent on business gifts to the municipalities of Cankova and Šalovci. They will be used to purchase two defibrillators, thanks to which the local population and visitors to the area will have a better chance of surviving a cardiac arrest.

For the third year running, Zavarovalnica Triglav has redirected a portion of the funds formerly reserved for New Year's business gifts to supporting a range of prevention projects. Among the more than 20 campaigns this year, it has supported the purchase of defibrillators, including one each for the municipalities of Cankova and Šalovci.

In this way Zavarovalnica Triglav aims to provide local communities with the best possible resources for the timely identification and treatment of health problems, and to increase chances of surviving a cardiac arrest. "Zavarovalnica Triglav's mission is to create a safer future. We want to provide local communities with the best possible resources to address health problems. That is why the Murska Sobota regional office has this year donated funds for the purchase of defibrillators to the municipalities of Cankova and Šalovci," said Sandi Štefan Flisar, the director of Zavarovalnica Triglav's Murska Sobota regional office, at the ceremonial presentation of the funds.

Defibrillator installed in the municipal building in Cankova

Localities in the municipality of Cankova are between 20 and 30 kilometres from Murska Sobota General Hospital. For the approximately 2,000 inhabitants of the villages of Cankova, Domajinci, Gerlinci, Gornji Črnci, Korovci, Krašči, Skakovci and Topolovci, the defibrillator installed in the municipal building in the village of Cankova thus represents a significantly better chance of survival in the event of a cardiac arrest. "Within the municipality of Cankova, this will be the first defibrillator in the centre of the settlement where the municipal offices, school, nursery, church, fire station, post office, shop, farm store and catering establishments are located. A large number of locals, visitors and tourists from various parts of the Mura region, the rest of Slovenia and nearby Austria pass through here every day. The new device, which can save lives, is therefore very important for the area," commented Cankova's mayor Drago Vogrinčič, adding that the municipality has several young qualified doctors and trainee doctors, as well as a number of active or retired nurses, who will be invited to attend training in the use of the defibrillator.

Defibrillator also installed in the municipal building in Šalovci

The municipality of Šalovci has around 1,500 inhabitants living in the villages of Čepinci, Markovci, Budinci, Dolenci, Šalovci and Domanjševaci and is 35 kilometres away from the hospital in Murska Sobota. Thanks to the new defibrillator, which will be installed in the municipal building in Šalovci, the inhabitants of this municipality on the border with Hungary – and visitors to the area – will have better a chance of survival in the event of a cardiac arrest. "It is good to see that Zavarovalnica Triglav is a company that is aware of the importance of good cooperation with the local environment," commented Šalovci's mayor Iztok Fartek. "Allow me to express our sincere thanks for the donation that has enabled the purchase of this device, which represents an important acquisition for the municipality and will help save lives."

Third year of the 'For a Better Tomorrow' campaign

The New Year 'For a Better Tomorrow' campaign is already in its third year. Over the last two years Zavarovalnica Triglav has supported more than 50 prevention projects nationwide, while a further 20 or so will receive support this year. A portion of the funds that would otherwise have been spent on New Year's gifts has in recent years been redirected towards assisting firefighters, purchasing defibrillators and an ECG monitor, and supporting other health and road safety projects.

The Murska Sobota regional office also contributed funds for the purchase of four publicly accessible defibrillators as part of New Year prevention campaigns last year and the year before last. Last year for the municipalities of Turnišče and Ljutomer and the year before last for the municipalities of Črenšovci and Dobrovnik.
