Remote filing of insurance claims

Štajerska hit by a severe hail storm, assessors already on the ground

Following the severe storms that swept through parts of Štajerska last weekend, Zavarovalnica Triglav is encouraging policyholders to report claims remotely. Zavarovalnica Triglav’s assessors are already visiting many of the locations affected. To simplify the claims settlement process for policyholders, a mobile assessment unit will be set up in some areas if necessary.

According to the data available so far, the severe storms with wind and hail have mainly affected buildings and agriculture, while in the municipality of Slovenska Bistrica several damaged vehicles have also been reported.

Zavarovalnica Triglav customers who suffered vehicle damage in the storms can register their claim online at https://www.triglav.si/skode/toca/prijava-skode-na-vozilu-zaradi-toce. Owners who suffered property damage can also file a claim remotely. They may do this at Triglav.si. They can also make use of the i.triglav digital advice centre and the free telephone hotline (080 555 555). Of course, policyholders can always contact their insurance agent or visit their nearest Triglav office or regional unit for help in filing their claim.

In the next few days, Zavarovalnica Triglav representatives will telephone customers who have filed their claims or pre-claims remotely, and arrange the next steps to resolve them.

Zavarovalnica Triglav strives to handle all cases as quickly as possible, when circumstances allow. Natural disasters and other events in which people’s lives are at risk require an even stronger response and priority action on the ground. Residents affected by storms or other extreme weather are advised to protect their own lives first and, if it is safe to do so, their property afterwards.

Tips on filing a claim
Zavarovalnica Triglav also advises its customers to take the following steps when filing a claim:

  • When damage occurs, policyholders should put their personal safety first.
  • When it is safe to do so they should take some photographs to show the damage as clearly as possible, and then start repairing it. If they can, they should keep the damaged items and all the relevant documents until they reach an agreement with the Zavarovalnica Triglav representative on the course to be taken to resolve their claim.
  • Before carrying out any repairs, policyholders should contact their insurer.
  • Before reporting a claim, they should check the coverage on their insurance policies.
  • When submitting a claim, they should provide as precise a description of the damaged items as possible, include any photographs of the damage, and add their telephone number and the bank account number to which the insurer can make the payment.

Although the deadline for reporting damage is three days after its occurrence, Zavarovalnica Triglav also considers claims filed after this deadline in the case of extreme events, such as the recent storms in Slovenia. Policyholders do not have to rush to file their claim, except in the case of cereals and other agricultural crops that are about to be harvested.

Nature showed its overpowering strength in last year's catastrophic floods. Find out more about the historically high damage that was caused then, natural disaster insurance and how to prepare for such events in the podcast Prepared for the (Un)Predictable: When nature shows its teeth.

Experts predict that extreme weather events, like the ones we saw in Slovenia last year, will become even more frequent and intense in the future. It is therefore important to be prepared for them as far in advance as possible. The Triglav Vreme (Triglav Weather) app can be useful in these efforts, enabling users to activate push messages that warn them about various weather events so they can take timely action to protect themselves and their property.
