Following the severe storms that swept through much of Slovenia overnight, Zavarovalnica Triglav is encouraging policyholders to report claims remotely. According to the information available so far, northern and north-eastern Slovenia were worst hit by the storms. In the Murska Sobota area in particular, strong local winds blew the roofs off buildings and knocked down trees, water flooded buildings, and other weather-related damage occurred. However, storms with strong winds and localised hail also appeared in other parts of Slovenia. Zavarovalnica Triglav’s assessors are already visiting many of the locations affected. To simplify the claims settlement process for policyholders, a mobile assessment unit will be set up in some areas if necessary.
Zavarovalnica Triglav customers who suffered vehicle damage in the storms can register their claim online. Owners who suffered property damage can also file a claim remotely. They may do this at Triglav.si. They can also make use of the i.triglav digital advice centre and the free telephone hotline (080 555 555). Of course, policyholders can always contact their insurance agent or visit their nearest Triglav office or regional unit for help in filing their claim.
In the next few days, Zavarovalnica Triglav representatives will telephone customers who file their claim or pre-claim remotely, and sort out the next steps to be taken to resolve the claim.
Due to the weather forecasts, it is expected that there will be more weather-related problems to come in the following days. Zavarovalnica Triglav strives to handle all cases as quickly as possible, when circumstances allow. Natural disasters and other events in which people’s lives are at risk require an even stronger response and priority action on the ground. Residents affected by storms or other extreme weather are advised to protect their own lives first and, if it is safe to do so, their property afterwards.
Tips on filing a claim
Zavarovalnica Triglav also advises its customers to take the following steps when filing a claim:
• When damage occurs, policyholders should put their personal safety first.
• Take photographs showing the damage as accurately as possible, as long as doing so is feasible and safe. If possible, they should keep the damaged items until they reach an agreement with the Zavarovalnica Triglav representative on the course to be taken to resolve their claim.
• When submitting a claim, provide as precise a description of the damaged items as possible, enclose any related photographs, and add your telephone number and the bank account number to which the insurer can make the payment.
Although the deadline for reporting damage is three days after its occurrence, Zavarovalnica Triglav also considers claims filed after this deadline in the case of extreme events. Policyholders do not have to rush to file their claim, except in the case of cereals and other agricultural crops that are about to be harvested.
Increasingly extreme weather
The volume and impact of mass loss events resulting from extreme weather conditions (mostly floods, windstorms, hail and frost) on the Triglav Group’s operating result fluctuates from year to year. Over the last decade (2013–2022), the highest total estimated values of mass loss events were in 2014, 2017, 2020 and 2022. Last year saw the third highest number of such claims over the period, while the average annual estimated value of mass natural loss events claims for the Triglav Group was almost EUR 23 million.
