With the “For A Better Tomorrow” New Year accident prevention campaign, Zavarovalnica Triglav have been fulfilling their mission of creating a safer future for seven years now by redirecting a portion of funds to support nationwide projects. This year, Slovenia’s largest insurer helped the primary school in Selnica ob Dravi with the installation of a reflective warning sign which will alert drivers to drive carefully as they’re approaching a school. Additionally, special protective covers will be installed on sandpits in two preschool units under the auspices of the primary school.
Zavarovalnica Triglav’s regional office in Maribor puts the safety of children in the foreground with its traditional New Year accident prevention campaign “For A Better Tomorrow”. “Here at Slovenia’s oldest insurance company, we know that children are our future. We strive to create a better and safer tomorrow with our many preventive activities, and this year’s campaign is dedicated to preschool children and pupils,” said Uroš Skuhala, director of Zavarovalnica Triglav’s regional office in Maribor.
As part of the campaign, a warning post will be installed in Selnica ob Dravi by the main road that passes the school. This is the main connection with the Koroška region, so an additional warning for drivers approaching the school will be a welcome addition.
Counting on prevention
“School routes through Selnica are unfortunately not always safe. Sections of the routes don’t have pavements or cycle lanes, while the traffic can be very heavy, with lots of buses and lorries,” said Manja Kokalj, the school’s headmistress, describing the traffic situation the school faces. With the new reflective warning sign, the children will be safer, especially during the autumn and winter months, when visibility is generally worse.
Protecting children is also the main focus of the campaign in two preschool units under the auspices of OŠ Janka Glazerja Ruše (Ruše and Bistrica), where protective covers will be installed on sandpits in order to protect the children from the sun and also for hygienic protection. “The protective covers have two purposes. Mainly, they serve to protect the children from the sun, but at the same time, they will be used to cover the sandpit and keep animals out. This will prevent any diseases caused by animal faeces,” said Ladislav Pepelnik, headmaster of OŠ Janka Glazerja Ruše.
