On 1 October 2020, the DRAJV mobile app will be upgraded with new features that will continue to encourage safe driving and reward users with various benefits.
Slovenia’s first telematics insurance solution, that is, car insurance based on driving habits, was introduced in 2015, when Zavarovalnica Triglav developed the DRAJV smartphone app. After five years of promoting and rewarding safe driving using the app, which has been downloaded more than 150,000 times and is used by more than 51,000 drivers every month, upgrading the app with new features was not only welcome, but necessary, said Špela Jereb Planinšek, Senior Specialist at the Innovation and Digitalisation Department at Zavarovalnica Triglav.
The app was developed primarily to reduce speeding violations in a way that is as unobtrusive but effective as possible, promote safe driving and, above all, reduce the number of road accidents. It is a fact that speeding and lack of attention are two of the most common causes of road accidents with serious consequences.
The upgraded DRAJV app being launched this autumn brings a number of innovations, such as real-time monitoring of driving mistakes with immediate feedback on the driving style that allows users to make continuous improvements.
Since the use of mobile phones while driving is one of the leading causes of accidents, the app is particularly sensitive in assessing phone movements, thus encouraging drivers to focus on their driving.
“The new application alerts users to speed limits and potential driving mistakes, which can greatly help improve driving and drivers’ habits,” says Jereb Planinšek.
New features for improved driving safety
The app, which already boasts a considerable mileage – a total of 530 million kilometres driven – invites new users to join the ranks of safe drivers and gain various benefits every month.
Some of the main features of the new DRAJV app are:
- A current speed display and monitoring of speed limits while driving.
- Real-time monitoring of driving mistakes (phone use, speeding, sharp turns, etc.).
- The possibility to set up automatic ride recording.

Drive safely and earn up to a 25% discount
With the new DRAJV app, users who drive safely will continue to benefit from car insurance discounts (liability insurance, driver insurance and general comprehensive car insurance), as well as the insurance for new drivers. Users who travel 400 km per month with a minimum score of 90 points out of 100 can get a 25% discount, while a lower monthly mileage translates to a slightly lower discount. Users can also take on various DRAJV challenges to earn attractive prizes and benefits, which makes using the app interesting and playful, while allowing the insurance company to communicate with its customers in a different way.
Zavarovalnica Triglav joins forces with Sygic
To upgrade and develop the new app, Zavarovalnica Triglav joined forces with the Slovak company Sygic, which is one of the leading firms in the field of navigation. Like Zavarovalnica Triglav, Sygic recognises the great potential of technology to increase road safety.
“We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to develop, together with Triglav, the unique functionality of DRAJV, which builds on the many years of experience of both companies. Triglav provides us with invaluable feedback, while setting new industry trends with its courage and willingness to innovate,” said Jozef Klinovský, Head of Product Delivery and Project Management Officer at Sygic.
Zavarovalnica Triglav is also satisfied with the cooperation, says Zoran Miloševič, Chief Innovation and Digital Officer, since both companies have a similar outlook on the importance of the strategic development of mobility – an area in which they wish to develop new solutions for smart devices.
“Sygic is a very experienced developer of navigation solutions that uses its knowledge in the field of mobility to help millions of people around the world find their way. For several years now, Zavarovalnica Triglav has also been monitoring and adapting to consumer-led mobility trends, so it can better predict future risks and develop new products to meet emerging demands. And as new forms of mobility will attract new users in the future, insurance companies will have many opportunities in this area, as well as challenges. With the driving style app, we want to continue rewarding safe drivers and help them improve even more by adding new features,” says Miloševič.
